When I think of birds, I think of nests! We get quite a bit around here, and once they're all used up and left for the weather, I like to take them apart and see what different species do to put their nests together. Day Three was all about nests! I have no idea how much my girls already know about animals, so I try to start somewhere in the middle.
Here was our bird nest that we found and used for our example.
C and I went to work gathering materials for our nests! FL was having one of those days, so C sweetly took her bucket around for her and gathered twigs and leaves so she would have something to make, too. : ) Pretty thoughtful for a little one, isn't she? : )
Of course, we've been inside a lot because of the cold and wind, so we had to take a minute to run off some steam! They like to walk up this little slope and then run down, shouting, "Weeeeeeeee!" with their hands in the air. I have no idea where they got such an idea! ; )
Breaking twigs and sticks in half is totally FL's thing, so she got into this part!
"Sure, Mama! I can break stuff in half!"
Even Scout the cat was in on this one!
I cut out two small rectangles from a cereal box and made a few circles of glue on them so they would easily attach their materials.
I looked at your blog yesterday and somehow I missed the bird posts. What great fun!! You've done some great fun and creative activities with the girls.
