Rainy Day, Lazy Day, Cookie Day

Disclaimer :  my house is messy and you can tell from the pictures, but we live our life.
Disclaimer 2 :  way, way too many pictures ahead!

I so, so, so enjoy making and eating sweets.  If I could live off of them and be healthy, I would!
One of the things I have been looking forward to doing with the girls is baking.  In China, they don't do a lot of baking and they don't have a lot of sweets around.  I wasn't sure if C had ever baked with her foster family and I knew FL hadn't been anywhere near a kitchen.
The day after our big appointments in Birmingham was cold, drizzly and we were all a little worn out, so I thought some chocolate chip cookies might be just what we needed. : )
Now, one of my girls has very fragile teeth and the other (both really) needs to stay in optimal health with a very low sugar diet, so we haven't given them hardly any sweets since we've been home.  I couldn't wait to see their reactions!  They need to keep sugar out of their diet, but we've got to live a little, too. : ).  These cookies were intended for a sweet neighbor even though they never made it there. ; )

They were super excited about being up on the counter in Mama's kitchen!

"Oooooh!  Do we get to play with this?!"

I let them look it over and then we talked about places that would hurt our fingers and places that were ok to put our fingers.

Mixing the dry ingredients (this whole thing was a great sensory experience!)...

Everyone gets a turn to try and everyone gets a turn to wait. : )

"Ok, so that's how it works!  Did you say butter and sugar were in there?"

"We get to taste it?!"  FL was fascinated!

We put our fine motor skills to the test and added the dry bit by bit...

C can make anything look prissy and princess-y and girly!

First taste of cookie dough!  They were both saying, "Mmmmmmmmm!" here!

You knew she'd love it!

And of course Miss Priss did!  They both kept saying/signing "more!"

The chocolate chips were a big hit!  They learned the sign for chocolate this day!

I tried to get them to hold up the bag and smile, but they are 2.5 year olds that have just had sugar and chocolate.  ; )

Can you tell this was a favorite activity?   Many more baking days ahead for us, sweet girls!

Despite my instructions, fingers squished, squashed and stole from the cookie sheet.  They were having too much fun for me to stop them!

Love her little crossed legs here - she's quite at home, don't you think?!

They wanted to "help mama cooking more," so I pulled out a little cooking set and gave them water and some noodles to play with.

It was a hit and kept them busy for over thirty minutes!  Thanks, Katie and Caitlyn for the cooking tools!

They enjoyed cleaning when we were all done, like Mama. : )

This is C playing at being serious.  She likes to feel and act very grown up!  I guess this is how I look when I clean?!

All that sugar had to go somewhere, so they ran around in Mama and Papa's shoes on the wrong feet!

Silly girls!
It was a good day - I know we'll do it again soon!
