Day Two we continued our bird theme and made binoculars for birdwatching!!!
All you need are two toilet paper rolls, some string, a stapler to put the rolls together and a hole punch to attach the string. You can chose how to decorate them. I intended ours to be black, but didn't realize I didn't have any black washable paint!!! Brown was the next best thing and covered easily, so they became brown. You could also use markers, stickers, whatever!
C and FL like to paint, so they were eager to get started!
I went ahead and stapled the rolls together just to make it easier for me and to keep them from accidentally rolling off of the table.
FL does pretty well focusing on her work when she enjoys what she is doing. I did have to do some hand over hand to show her how to use a paintbrush properly.
C needed a little help with her brushing, too. She is saying and signing "more" here, as she wants more paint!
They dried fast, so we went to work stringing our binoculars. It was a great use of fine motor skills!
C was thrilled!!! She even volunteered to smile for a picture!
She couldn't wait to take them to the window to try it out!
She was rapidly naming everything she saw! Quickly, we got ready and went outside into the cold to try to see if we could find some birds.
I did this activity in Kindergarten as a little girl and I still remember it to this day - I'm glad C enjoyed it as much as I did. She was so happy!
FL didn't really see what the point was...
I mean, why would toilet paper rolls help you see any better?! She was NOT going to put them up to her eyes.
"For real, You think this is fun?! I can see birds so much better by myself, and I don't look nearly as silly as you both do!"
We have a junior birdwatcher on our hands I think!
We did our best to get FL excited about it...
