We've taken a looong break from having weeks with a learning time and theme... Not because we wanted to, but our days have just been so full, so different and we've been off of our schedule. This week we worked on spots and stripes! There's something about intentional learning time with my children that just makes a big difference in our days. I've got to make sure we keep it in our schedule when ever we can!
Activity 1 - Visit and Identify Animals with Spots and Stripes
On errand day, we took a detour to the pet store and visited some sweet animals! The girls liked showing off their stuffed animal with spots to the real thing with spots!
Not sure the cat was very impressed, though. We also looked at birds, bunnies, ferrets and different animals on the food packaging.
Activity 3 - Let the Child Pick WHATEVER They Want in Spots and Stripes
This was hilarious and made them so, so, so happy and proud!
I really am going to have to let them do this more often and take them out in public!
How can you NOT smile when you see a little one dressed like this?!
Their tacky clothes just make them cuter! And they can definitely pick out spots and stripes!
Activity 4 - Draw Spots and Stripes with Sidewalk Chalk
We did this throughout the week, as the afternoon showers kept washing away our drawings! Not a great picture of their work, but they really did an excellent job of drawing spots and stripes.
They even broke sticks into small pieces to make stripes and many other things. This was totally their idea. They are both so creative!
Activity 5 - Go to the Zoo and Find Animals with Spots and Stripes
Weather permitting, we go to the zoo once a week, so this was an easy fit into our schedule. The girls dressed in jaguar spot pants, as we are big fans of the zoo's jaguar family!
Of course we visited our beloved tigers! Stripes!
This bird looked a little like a peacock, but had iridescent purple spots... Hard to capture with an iPad.
You'll just have to take our word for it!
Activity 6 - Craft with Stripes and Spots
We only got to the stripes... Busy week, but the outcome was good!
I chose an animal, Drew and cut it out and let the girls practice their cutting and gluing skills. Different reasons for each child, but cutting is really challenging for them, so I have to help 100% of the time. Thus, no pictures!
The girls cut long and short, thin zebra stripes, then glued them to the zebra. I trimmed around the edges of the animal, then they helped me glue it to the paper of their choice.
